SANITATION, HYGIENE AND HEALTH CARE PRACTICES AMONG THE GORKHA PEOPLE IN DWARIKA VILLAGE OF KANGPOKPI DISTRICT, MANIPUR

Abstract
The study examines the sanitation, hygiene, and healthcare practices among the
Gorkha,in Dwarika village, located in Kangpokpi District of Manipur. The villagers,
primarily of Gorkha descent, rely on traditional remedies alongside limited access to
modern medical care. Despite the lack of formal healthcare facilities and inadequate
sanitation system, the community remains resilient in their efforts to maintain
health. The people of Dwarika demonstrate a strong commitment to hygiene,
keeping their households and surroundings clean through daily practices deeply
influenced by cultural and religious traditions. Their hardworking nature is evident
in their ability to manage household cleanliness and sanitation effectively, despite
the infrastructure limitation. The villagers’ lifestyles reflects a harmonious blend of
modern and traditional approaches to both health and hygiene, ensuring their well-
being as best as they can under the circumstances.
